Hi, your question(s) is a little confusing - I'm not sure if you want to grow it for fruit, or if you want to learn bonsai, as they are two different things. I think you're more interested in the fruit, but yes, the plant will grow into a small tree if given the right conditions. Whether you then want to bonsai it, without fruit, (allowing fruit to grow on a bonsai will weaken the tree structure) is another story, and you'll need to learn more about bonsai first.

Thank you for the clarification i did actually want to grow both a bonsai and a slightly larger tree 2-3 ft for fruit. I was just wondering how i would make it into a bonsai tree, because of the whole tree/bush thing

Well you have to get started learning (it's not like just growing a house plant with a bit of a difference). Start with www.bonsai4me.com for general basic info., go to www.bonsaihunk.us/cultural.html for excellent info on tropicals (particularly Ficus), and join up sites like this one, and www.bonsaisite.com (where there tends to be more action :-). Whatever you do though, don't go out buying anything until you know what you're doing or you'll end up with dead trees and be discouraged, and definitely don't get those Wal-Mart 'bonsai' either, plus never ever go by the care tags stuck on them as they are pretty much one-size-fits-all and don't really do anything good for any tree! I will tell you that growing from seed is a long term proposition, with built-in problems, and starting instead with at least 3-5 yr old trees either from local nurseries (most of which will be 'outdoor' trees) or even supermarket "house plants" (for tropical starters that you make into bonsai) are a lot faster and easier. Outdoor trees means that wherever you live, the trees will be cold hardy to that climate, which means they not only will survive however cold it gets in the winters but if in the north, must remain outside to get cold dormancy (below freezing usually) for months and won't make it indoors.
