| Hi, My question is about these seeds i ordered from Hirts Gardens. I just want to know the best way to do cold stratafication for japanese maples and just maples in general, since i have read a few methods. also i am wondering if you use the same general method for most species of maple because i plan on getting more seeds to start. thank you

| I put my maple seeds in a ziplock baggie with a damp paper towel. Then into the refrigerator for 60-120 days. I had previously used damp spagnum moss, but found it was easier to prevent too much moisture with a paper towel. Frank |

| I was also wondering, I have some matsumurae maple seeds germinating in high quality seed mixture all in individual pots that are in little greenhouses. I have them in my room and they are under a indoor plant light that provides enough warmth to keep presipitation on the tops of the greenhouses and good soil temp. What i am wondering is if I put my O Isami J. Maples in that same environment (when the cold stratafication is over) will they do well in that type of environment? The reason I am wondering this is because I read somewhere that A.Japonicum Matsumarae and A. Japonicum O Isami germinate diffeent because one doesnt require cold stratification. thanks again elijah |
