Live oak seed sowing

I am starting a live oak from seed to try as bonsai. I sowed the seed and moistened the soil. I have it in my basement which is 65 degrees farenheit pretty consistently. My question is being in the white oak family it may germinate any time before spring and I want it to start growth in spring not before then, so how can I stop that? I put a small container with holes in the bottom over the seed area. I don't know of any other way, any sugestions?
