Dying Juniper Bonsai

My juniper bonsai tree is turning pale green, and the needles are very brittle. After searching the internet, I realize that I should have grown it outside so that it could have a dormant winter season, but unfortunately it's too late. I followed the advice of a few websites and repotted the plant, cutting off some of the dead root. Most of the roots were black or dark brown. I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to try and save it. Is there anything else that might help?

Sounds like it not only has probably been watered much too often, but is also in the wrong soil and very likely has been gone for some time, though not shown it because junipers don't until they've been gone for a while. If most of the foliage is still green and soft vs 1 branch, it might be salvagable, so let us know.
