| i have a cutting of a japanese maple and the buds are opening does this mean i have roots or not.i have bottom heat and i have a ziplock on it. |

| Plant it - there'll be some ultra-thin roots if nothing else, and if you leave it in the bag it'll rot. |

| I wouldn't rush things. Verify you have roots first. Just because you notice swelling of buds and growth doesn't necessarily mean you have roots. It's a common practice for some folks to cut branches off outdoor plants this time of year to force blooming for some color in the house now. I think they do this just sitting in water. randy |

| You might try rooting you cuttings next time in something it can grow in for a period of time so this isn't an issue. You'll be positive you have roots after a good amount of growth by slightly tugging on the stem. If it doesn't pull up, you have a rooted plant. randy |
