This is very frequently done & is called an 'approach graft'. It works if you pare the two branches down so you can match cambium to cambium. Bind the branches tightly together with grafting tape or black electrical tape with the sticky side out, then seal the ends (of the tape) with grafting wax or cut paste. Wait
