I have a Satsuki Azalea Bonsai. I got it for Valentines Day and I live in Kansas so I am very scared to put it out side due to the fact it can be 60 one day and 20 the next outside. It has only been outside for 1 maybe 2 days and I have read so many different ways to protect the plant outside such as cover it with glass pine needles or mulch and I am really confused..... I have to get this plant outside so can someone help me and tell me what they have done or what the best thing to do is so I can save my plant!!!!

Don't put it outside now at all - it'll be shocked, it's too late in the season to go dormant anyhow, and Satsuki's are less cold hardy than other azaleas. Just keep it in the coolest place you have with as much humidity as possible (don't spray all day, just set the pot on a wide tray of stones with water up to just below the stones' tops) and not in a southern exposure window.

You cannot put your azalea outside at this time of year without killing it. Satsuki azaleas are winter hardy to about zone 7a. Your plant is not hardened off to experience regular frost. If you want the plant out of your house, place it in a frost proof garage or attic, and if you are in a zone 7 (maybe 6b in protected location with mulching), you can plant it in the ground when the frost safe date is reached in your area. Keeping it in a bonsai contaier outside over winter would probably kill it except in mild winter areas of light frosts. I have a satsuki azalea planted in the front which I've had for about ten years and never has any problem, but growing in the ground is very different from a container situation. Good luck!

Learned before spending about which trees to get (tropicals) and which not to get for indoors.

You must get it out of the house? Or you have been told that is the best thing to do?

You can keep it indoors until the last frosts have passed, in a cool room with good light. Keep it moist (but not wet)- don't be overly concerned about the temp- 60-65 is fine, but avoid temp swings.
Give it some Miracid or orchid fertilizer (mixed half strength) about once every 2-3 weeks. Do not use regular houseplant fertilizer, azaleas need the slightly acidic fert. Wait until early June before putting outside.
