| I bought a new bonsai tree and i do not exactly know which kind it is. I would like to know so i can take care of it properly. |

| It's a Ficus, likely a microcarpa variety (possibly Green Island, though they don't usually have those fat trunks/roots), could be a 'Ginseng' type, or something else (there are a lot of different ones around these days!). The absolute first thing you need to do is get those glued on pebbles off it so you can judge dryness and water properly (they're only there to keep soil in the pot while shipping!). The second thing would be NOT to water til the majority of the soil is dry, and get it into the absolute brightest place you can for the most hours a day possible - but not near a hot air vent or anything like it. Get a much larger (wider) saucer, fill it with stones (bigger & more of them though!) and put the pot on top of them. Fill the saucer with just enough water to always remain below the pot bottom, because if it's wicked up inside it'll rot the roots. In the spring, you might want to cut the longer branches back by half and you'll get more foliage, and then you can make some choices about which branches to keep (or not). |
