Blueberries as Bonsai ?

Posted by scenter 7 GA (My Page) on

I recently added three more bluberries to my edible landscape, but, as I was planting them in the ground, I thought: How would these do as Bonsai? They seem to meet some of the criteria for Bonsai (slow woody growth, small leaves, small fruit, gnarled bark on aged wood, a branching habit, etc), yet they are not in the bonsai books I have. Has anyone here tried them as Bonsai? Do they/do they not perform well?

Thanks

Bruce

Hello Bruce,

If you google "Blueberry" and "Bonsai" and do an image search, you will find a picture of Nick Lenz's blueberry bonsai on The Art of Bonsai Project website. It's actually quite stunning.

Thanks! I'll get another one for bonsai-ing (and slight bummer - here I thought I was having an original idea!! - haha). I wonder which cultivar I should try.

When I googled, I also saw another thread in this forum with the same subject - sorry about the duplication of effort.
