I had great success germinating Live Oak acorns. When I received the acorns, I placed them into slightly damp coconut coir, and put them into a large zip-lock bag, then into the refrig. for a few months, to stratify, and keep them dormant. They came out of the cold storage a few weeks ago, and they have been potted-up and are rooted in individual plastic drinking cups, ready to go out into the warm weather.

I didn't know this, but Live Oak has juvenile leaves that look like holly. I think they have to grow out for a few years before the adult leaves take over.

I think your acorns were kept too wet, and soured under the heavy soil.

F.W.Schumacher's in Mass. might still have some left. Try again, or, order seedlings from: D.R. Bates,Liners... in Florida. They are cheap, and you don't have to worry about rotting acorns.
