I received a gardenia bonsai for valentine's day that's covered in buds and has 2 open blooms. One of the blooms turned yellow then brown and when I poked it it fell off.

I assume I should pinch the "basket" that the flower was sitting in, but not sure how far down to go - and with fingers or scissors on a slant?
