Is the plant outside? my azalea is outside here in zone 6 (not a bonsai) and every winter ALL of its leaves turn purple, but they never drop, in the spring they turn green again. Im not sure what type it is but it has purple flowers and is about 6 feet tall. I heard before that azaleas flower around this time in florida.

Right now it is sitting inside in the most airy and sunny spot in the house, its too cold outside to put it out there yet or to even work on adjusting it to living outside. I'm in upstate New York, and I know there is no way it would be blooming naturaly on its own quite yet. Temps barely get above freezing right now.

The leaf coloration shouldn't be a problem, and yes they are induced to flower by the floral shop. I also recommend you place it outside (when the last frost date has passed for your area). If kept inside too long the azalea will begin to slowly weaken and eventually perish.
