Alaska Fish Fertilizer smells horrible !

Spring has finally sprung here in san diego ! I used Alaska Fish Fertilizer for the first time today . It was recommneded by the SD Bonsai Society . I had no idea what to expect when I opened it up ! Stinks like catfish bait and looks like loose bowels , even after four hours , my back porch still smells like one big toilet . I hope this stuff really does the job . Anyone have experience with this stuff ? I would be interested in testimonies .
Happy Spring !

I'm sure it's probably a decent fertilizer, but why smell everything up when you can get lots of other ferts that aren't so offensive?

True dat !

Yeah, it is good stuff in the yard and garden, but it's a bit overwhelming in a container.
I only use it during the warm months, and only on certain outdoor plants - willows, osage,
horsetail rush, ferns, maples, and a few others.

I mix a very weak, opaque solution. If the mix is too strong, I find that it draws ants.

Like some other things it's an aquired taste hahahahahahaha

Did you maybe not dilute it enough? I cut mine about like Josh said and water with it pretty hard...keeps the mosquitos away for a few hours ;))

*actually it doesn't smell quite as bad as opening a fresh bottle of nuoc mam

...that must be fermented fish sauce?

I watched a "Making Of" about fish sauce...
fascinating, nasty stuff.

consistency question

Hello,

I recently got Alaska Fish Fertilizer (deodorized supposedly) but I'm concerned. They say is looks like and has a consticency of chocolate milk. I opened mine and it was really think like caramel. Actually it is like maple syrup consistency, even after shaking it very well. I am scared to use it on my plants as I don't want to poison them with something. Should I take it back or is supposed to thick like that.

i meant "thick like caramel." Also, it's actually thicker than maple syrup.

Yeah, it's thick stuff....especially when you get toward the bottom of the bottle ;-)

So it's supposed to be that thick? When I first opened it up, there was a pile of goop stuck in the underside of the cap. If it's OK, I'll keep using it.
