For Lucy

As I said, there isn't much in the way of 'movement' yet, just picked this one up to play with a little. The other pic is a Benj. cutting I rooted in the back yard then put in the tray of rocks and water beside my desk here.

Something else to play with when I'm bored :\

Hi, I do like the cascade effect on your tree, though I wonder if you ever intend to let it grow in a wider pot at all because all those roots look so cramped, plus I wonder if you'll have trouble getting it out of the pot (whenever) as I think the pot's edge might make it difficult (or does it not reach over the soil by even a tiny bit?). Be curious also to see which way the benji goes in future (will you do ROR or ??

RE: For Lucy

The pot is big enough for the size of the tree, 4.5" square, about 16" high. It's in sand so repotting won't be a problem, just pull it up and out. The lip of the edge is only about 1/4" so not a big problem (can't find any here that don't have this type of edge) I see a road trip to China in the future anyway.

I'll probably just leave the little one as a curiosity for now (or until the maid knocks it over).

Hi Bob,

The tree looks great! But as one mentioned before, the nebari could be a bit more cleaned up. Removing the small visible fibre-roots should do the trick.

I'm also wondering if plain sand would give the tree all the water, nutrition's and the air it needs to survive. I've never heard of anyone using plain sand as a soil for his trees.

I'm just messing with it for now, nothing major. I sort of like the tangle of roots anyway, it's the way most tropicals grow here. Most of the trees are growing in the coarse sand from the beach here, not too fine. It drains well and does hold enough moisture, there is nothing like pine bark anyway over here ;)) What I do is feed once a month, skip a tree if it's going crazy then catch it the next time.

I also do other strange things with my trees. I touch them, dig around in the soil with my fingers and chop sticks, 'pet' the foliage pads, wiggle them in the pots, just to name a few.

Most trees will adjust to 'most' soil mixes anyway.

Nice Ficus! It is a ficus right?
