bald cypress bonsai

i am looking to purchase my first bonsai...as a gift for my wife. she loves bald cypress and i would love to get an established but young cypress bonsai but i am concerned that our winters are too cold for the roots to be above ground. will this work in maryland z6b/7a?

They'll live where you are, but it would be best if you have a place to put it where it can get a little protection from extra strong winds, and mulch it well in winter. Does your wife have any bonsai background at all?
