I have 3 trees in separate 6-inch round shallow plastic pots. The roots are contained in the pot. The trunks are perhaps 2 inches tall, kind of thick and there are exposed roots above the surface of the soil that look neat. There are branches that shoot radially (in a nice circle, like 12, 3, 6, 9 on a clock face) from the pruning cut on the trunk. So these are looking pretty good.

On these secondary branches I assume pruning them back to thicken them is the way to go now. I believe these trees are 5 years old, perhaps older, defintely potted up from growing seedlings in the yard.

Bonsai is not really my hobby, but I think it is interesting. Appreciate any advice from the cognoscenti.
