Fukien Tea wilting after re-potting

I recently bought a small Fukien Tea and re-potted it after trimming the roots. Being a beginner, I think I cut off too much of the root system to try and remove the taproot. I put a bit of rooting hormone on the remaining root system, to try and cover up my error, and now the leaves are wilting... Big surprise. Are there any suggestions anyone can give me to save my little tree? Or should I just keep it misted a couple times a day, and keep it in the shade, and be patient to see if it makes it? Thanks!

Forget misting at any time, it's useless. And get it OUT of the shade into the brightest light you can all day long (and longer). Don't use rooting hormone on existing roots, it's only meant to stimulate growth where there are none, and certainly not on an already stressed tree. Do set up a wide tray of stones and water under the pot for humidity, but never ever allow the water to reach the pot bottom (and rot roots). Do get it all under glass or at least a clear plastic bag (unfastened) for now, but keep a very close eye on it for too much condensation actually running down the bag (vs a few drops hanging on) or you'll run into other trouble.

Thanks, Lucy! I didn't have a clue on this one, and I really appreciate the help. I've learned lots of important lessons.
