Another Gardenia Bonsai question.

Hello. My husband got my a Gardenia Bonsai a few weeks ago, but and I've run into some difficulties with it. It's full of buds but has only but only two have bloomed. The flowers lasted for a few day and then started to brown. I thought this normal, I mean flowers don't last forever. Though I noticed earlier that a few of the buds that have been trying to bloom are also turning brown.

I water I check it daily and usually water it every other day. I make sure the soil is moist and I don't flood the roots. I also pour extra water into the tray (but not enough to reach the roots) so it can get the humidity it needs.

What am I doing wrong?

RE: Another Gardenia Bonsai question.

Putting water in the tray will rot the roots unless the pot's above the water on pebbles. But likely the problem is lack of light - really strong, possibly supplemental (with full spectrum, very high wattage fluorescents 15 hrs/day). You can't treat bonsai like house plants, but even a flowering house plant needs lots of light to bloom.
