Hi, if you're really new to bonsai, and have bought a tree that normally needs to live outdoors all year, and are trying to keep it alive indoors, it might have been a better idea to research first, buy later, but since you're here, you'll have to keep it alive til after the last frost of spring in your area has gone, then move it outside for good. Plants that need cold dormancy to survive can't be kept indoors for long, but of course if it's been inside for any length of time now, it will only be shocked if it's put out before summer. What we need is some info - like how much sun can you give it for how long every day inside (which N.S.E.W. exposure for how many hrs?), and make sure to keep it far from any heating vents that will dry it out. Wait til the top layer (not just the very top) of soil is dry before watering well (from above, not by dunking).

Hi shiollie Check you wisteria base. if it is grafted or not. One plant or two or three plants togather? If more than one plant then you have to divide now. when divide plants, do not prune roots. keep roots much as you can. when transplanting wisteria, unlike other tree/plants you are not prune the root. after divided or repotting wrap roots thighly and use twine to hold roots togather. by end of May you put 2/3 of wistria pot into backet of water for 7 to 10 day untill leaf tune to yelow. (Submerge 2/3 of wistria pot)you keep buket of water in sunny spot. Not shaded area. why? keep wisteria in water give stress and kill some new roots which slow down vegtative groth and force wistria to make flower buds for next year's flower. Don't warry ^^ .wistria is not going to die. We are doing this method for hundreds of years. Wistria is long live tree, we have( in Japan) old as 1200 years old wistria and still blooming every year. avoid pruing during summer.while wistria sending new growth new barnch will not have / produce flower buds.

Thanks Lucy and Yama..before anyone thinks I have just jumped in over my head let me explain, this 'wisteria" is just a stick right now with just a few leaves emerging..it is a baby. I have done enough research to know that I will have to leave it alone for a few years while it matures a bit. When the time comes to start training it, it will be outside in a large pot, I would like to keep it around 4 ft tall and in the winter it will be stored and allowed to go dormant.
