My mother recently bought me a ponytail palm bonsai as a gift. I know many don't consider this a true bonsai, but it's a gift from my mother and I'd like to attempt at keeping it healthy. The thing is it has the rocks glued onto the soil surface. I did a google search and found that this is done to aide in shipping. But how do I get them off without injuring the plant?

Use a very small pliers or knife or something to undermine it at the trunk - but be VERY careful to stay horizontal or you could damage roots - and once you get a bit pried up, you can peel back the rest with your fingers, and if necessary replace any soil that might come away with the chunks.

I used a screw driver before because it was the tool i didnt mind damaging.
