| Hello.. I've never posted on the Bonsai Forum before today.
Although I'd love to grow 'true' Bonsai Trees, such as Maple, Oak, etc, 'perhaps in the future,' I need advice growing tropical & succulents as Bonsais. If I'm in the wrong forum, can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks. I have one 10-yr-old Ficus, 'don't know its type,' one, 12-yr-old PonyTail Palm, the one 5-year-old Ponytail Palm growing in bonsai containers. Other than the Ficus foliage getting pruned, none have been root-pruned or repotted. Can someone please explain about root-pruning, soil, fertilizer and repotting? Since these three plants have been living in the same soil and pots so long, I'd like to get started now that spring is nearing. Thanks, Toni

| Hi, you may not realize it, and probably most people don't, but what you're asking is for a 'course', not something quickly given in a few tips here. I suggest you first try to find a local club to join, because it's a lot faster and easier to see what's going on in person and understand what's meant by terms, etc. But if that isn't possible, then start reading whatever you can (bonsai4me.com is a good place for basics, as is bonsaihunk.com for tropical indoor trees). I could tell you some very general things about this or that but without a context it wouldn't be enough. |

| Larke. Thanks. Actually, there aren't any Bonsai clubs around. I agree, viewing, is the best way to learn, but I don't have that option. Thanks for the two links..I'll have to ck them out, Toni |
