I bet my little tree is an immature Chamaecyparis lawsoniana. If it were a juniper, the needles would be hard and sticky, but my tree is hugable soft. Immature cypress leaves, like junipers, look different from mature leaves, right?

If you had a juniper and the needles were hard (never mind sticky), the tree would be either dead or on its way. Can you not get a picture up either here or on this forum's gallery (but then leave a note here to direct us)? Multiple slender trunks does not sound like any conifer/evergreen in any case - sounds more like a house plant (they're often sold that way). Could it be a Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) which is not a pine at all, but is used as a house plant?

Try look at chamaecyparis pisifera as well, particularly c. pisifera "boulevard" Nice soft, blue foliage as you mentioned..

Thanks for taking time to reply, Lucy, but if you ever decide to become a tree hugger, just make sure you don't choose a juniper--dead or alive--as your subject. They're simply not friendly in either state.
