What type of bonsai do I have?

I have received this bonsai around January of this year. It was doing well at first but then the leaves started to drop. I looked up and did some research and it could be possibly root rot or temp change? I have a light over it but all the new leaves are curling and dropping before they even get to be a decent size. I just need a little input on what I should so and why type of bonsai this is!
