Sweetgum Leafing out early..

Hello all,

I have a sweetgum sapling (Liquidambar styraciflua) in a pot sunk in the ground and it's leafing out, which is unusually early for this area (over here they usually leaf out in late April/early May). It has been much warmer than usual but a hard frost is forecast later this week. Anyone have ideas on how I could protect the new growth?

Dig it up and put it in the garage before it freezes. When you replant it, reorient it 180* from its former orientation (to the sun).

Thanks very much! It survived the last one because I brought it in, but we're expecting another freeze so will definitely put it in the garage again.
