| Can any kind person help me identify this little tree? I found it at a local garden centre, without a nametag, and I need to know what it is to treat it right.
Many thanks in advance: [I MG]http://thumb4.webshots.net/t/66/666/5/79/96/2548579960035214684YAwZ yQ_th.jpg[/IMG] |

| Hi, I think it may be a Serrisa, not the easiest tree to deal with. It likes lots of sun (it is tropical), a fast draining gritty mix (though with some organic in there... it's not a succulent), cooler indoor temps, water when the top quarter of the mix is dry, and don't move it all over the place once settled in. Don't let the pot sit in drain water but do use a wide tray of water filled with stones to keep the pot away from it, and you'll also be providing the humidity it likes. It gets white flowers (also called Tree of a l,000 Stars) if it's happy. |

| Lucy, thank you very much for the reply. I actually saw Serissa in a bonsai book but didn't think further about it because it said there would be an unpleasant smell if the leaves were crushed...however, probably that would be strong, vibrant leaves, I suppose - which these are not. I really appreciate your input, and sorry for the messy link! |

| Serissa foetida ('fetid') smells bad, but the other couple of varieties aren't as bad. |
