Hello Bonsai forum,

I absolutely love the Sweetgum tree. I have seen them growing here for several years at a local arboretum and have decided to try my hand at bonsai-ing them.

I got some seeds from a Northeast US source and germinated a few of them. I was wondering, given that this tree grows outdoors in San Diego/Los Angeles-type climates, would it be possible for me to grow it indoors? My window sill is drafty and can get in the 40s F during cold winter nights.

If not, I would try to overwinter some of them outdoors (if so, when should I sink the pots in the ground?). Can they also be overwintered in a dark cold storage at about 40 F?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
