Im purchising this tree, Its collected from Puerto Rico. and is now in florida. waiting to get a little more established before its mailed to me in maine. its in an 8inch plasitic shallow pot. I have a handmade pot comming as well, out of the U.K. Its 6.5 at its widest point, and 2 inches high . The tree and the pot would make an awsome team. any suggestions on transplanting from a 8 inch to a 6.5 inch pot. Should i ask the seller of the tree to prepare it for me, seeing that it wont even be shipped for 4-6 weeks so its ready to be transplanted??

If the seller is a knowledgable bonsai-ist, I would ask them, but if they are just a dealer who doesn't really do bonsai, then I'd wait, and possibly not transplant this year at all. It'll be late-ish when you get it, and it will need more time to recover from the trip, plus I personally would want to get a look at the roots, etc. myself before anything.

Thanks Larke,
Are you familiar at all with this tree? i can not find much info on it. I have seen a few pictures of it as bonsai, and lots of picture of it in the wild. I cant seem to find any information on soil conditions.

I just googled and wiki'd and PLANT profiled the tree.
It looks interesting.

I attended a workshop at BSF 2011 on June 10, 2011, today July 8, 2011 I took the wire off because it was beginning to mark the branches. This is only four weeks.
