I am a subsitute at the local schools. I saw in a science room where students were using wicking for plants. I have a silver maple and started using this process a few weeks ago. So far it is working great.

I assume you're using it to supply water to the plant, rather than drain water from the soil - yes? Are you aware of a fairly major drawback to using this method?

What is the draw back?

..... rapid accumulation of soluble salts in the medium. You'll still need to flush the soil thoroughly and frequently from the top to control it.

I, too, am a sub at the local high school...
Nice to have another around!
