My new Japanese Maple

Hey all, purchased this tree online for a low price and wanted to know what everyone thought of it. I think it is a beautiful tree. It has a nice compact rootball. I placed it into this big 'ol pot to let the trunk grow out more. I didn't have enough soil, so I had to use some that was sitting around, most likely used from other trees. Think it should be sterilized by baking it in the oven? Here it is:

What does everyone think?

Good start, Ryan.
I was pruning my Weeping Willows this morning, and thought of yours...how are they?

Generally, I wouldn't do much work on maples that have leafed out already.
So let your maple recuperate in the shade for a couple weeks. Direct sun will blast it.

It might lag for a month or so, but by season's end it ought to be back on track...and then some.
Don't fertilize for a couple weeks.

Thanks Josh! My willows are doing Okay, they could be better. They kind of seem to explode with growth once you get them potted up.

I have it placed in the shade right now. And won't be fertilizing for some time. I hope it shoots out with growth. It has the potential to be a great tree IMO.
