| I just finished describing a gnarled up geranium I just dressed up as a bonsai in another post concerning unusual bonsai. When I was leaving for work today I saw at the trash dumpster there was this pail that kept intriguing me...(always need pails for the garden or cleaning or something)...so I went to look at it and inside was a plastic bag, and this was what was inside....a bonsai dish - a rectangular low one. A couple of large quartzy type of rocks and a little asian man figurine. I thought wow and here I just doctored one up and then find the spoils to make a more legit one. Any suggestions for a beginner to make use of the spoils?
(Do you think there was something to why that pail was beckoning me? lol) |

| Well if you like to use quartzy rocks and figurine in your work, I'm sure you'll find a place for them... but don't expect anytime soon to be given awards as such things are generally considered to be tacky in bonsai circles :-). |

| It was a nice find, all the same. Fashions change, maybe in a few years time figurines will be á la mode. |

| Good find! I love free pots! ;) A 5-gallon Monrovia container floated down the creek the other day, and was trapped in the roots of a willow on my property. My brother took it when he was up on Sunday. While I don't fancy figurines in particular, I am a sucker for cool rocks! No one is going to ban you! This Forum can use all the traffic it gets! ;) Josh |

| Josh, thanks for being welcoming. I was not trying to diminish the ancient, beautiful and science of the Bonsai. I adore flora and fauna so much! I am a porcellian collector so I love nice figurines etc. My favorite part of Bonsai is the little huts, or people or bridges or rock formations, to make it look like a miniature landscape. But the intitracies of bonsai technique are trully amazing. |
