Hi, This tree is a Cotoneaster apiculatus. I bought it yesterday and styled it today. Please critique my tree and pot as if it were on show. I did not place its table or setting. Thanks, Gardener Guy

| I am very new to this bonsai thing so I don't know how useful my critique is. However, I am a photographer so my critique is based on my basic sense of composition. I'll give my 2 cents. I like how the main part of the pot does not call attention to itself. I would like the legs of the pot better if they were a little darker or if your tree had some lighter areas in it to balance the with the lighter legs. I like that the tree is placed in the left 1/3 of the pot rather than in the middle. I like how the long branch on the right extends out over the right 2/3 of the pot. I like how the branches mostly taper in size all the way to the top of the tree yet there are still a couple blanches that don't follow the taper perfectly but aren't so large that they extend outside the the triangle your bonsai forms. I look forward to hearing what people who know something about bonsai have to say about your tree. How old is it? |
