Is my plant going to die?

Posted by jztzv6 (My Page) on

I just bought a camellia bonsai. I dropped the plant and broke the glass pot it was in. The whole plant fell out of the pot. I threw it away and decided 5 dys later to dig it out of trash and try to resalvage. I repotted with miracle gro and cleaned all of the leaves. I watered it w/ lukewarm water. Most of the leaves remained in tack. Does this plant stand a chance (I have it indoors in view of my patio doors)??? Please help.

Five days is a long time of course, but if it was kept from drying out too much while in the trash, I suppose (guess) it could have a chance, but you'll be the first to know and no one else can possibly say. A cactus would obviously have had a better chance, but wait and see how it goes.

Just a question, isn't Miracle Gro fertilzer? You don't say what sort of pot you have planted it in.I would suggest you plant it into a reasonable sized flower pot, one that easily takes the rootball, but doesn't swamp it, in an ericacious compost. As a camelia is an outdoor shrub, it should be the other side of the patios doors. I have found shrubs discarded on rubbish tips that have survived; just don't over water it thinking that's what it needs, or over pamper it. Put it in a quiet part of the garden and let it get on by itself.

You can buy MG soil as well. BWT, Camelias may be outdoor plants where you live, but except for in the south, they aren't hardy in the U.S.

Nixtrix,

I used miracle gro potting soil. The pot I used was approx 6-8 inches in diameter and roughly 8-10 inches tall. Does it absolutely have to be outside? If so, do I plant it in the ground or keep it containerized? What is the best indoor flowering bonsai? I'd like to get one...

Camelias can't live outdoors except in the south - so planting it in the ground is pointless (and fatal).

Lucy,
Thanks for the tip. I totally want to keep my plant inside. I'm glad this is ok:)
