While there is no harm in trying to find an answer to whatever questions you might have, it occurs to me that your energies might be better spent trying to figure out why your tree is declining and in trying to correct the cultural issues at blame, instead of looking for a miracle fix. Don't read my reply as harshly critical, please. It's offered in a purely observational tone. I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm reasoning that it seems like a perfect way to introduce pathogens into the nutrient stream which could cause all sorts of problems. Trees tend to call out their defences and 'wall off' infections, so I don't know how the scenario would play out in the end, but it's the first I've heard of systemic feeding of sugars ..... but maybe I'm out of the loop. ;o)

Check the P.H it love's acidic soil. I keep mine at 4.5. I mixed sphagnum moss with Hoffmans bonsai soil 50/50 I also have mine sitting in a very sunny window in coalition with fourecent light. I feed it with miracid cut in half. How long have you had the plant? what is the lighting condition. The Plant is native to west africa. It wants lots of light. and lots of humidity. Give us some more details and i can probaly help you save the tree.

By "declining in health lately" I mean it's a stem without leaves. I have another plant which I'm successfully keeping and it has proper soil ph. I really posted about the miracle fruit tree because I'm really curious if it's even possible for trees to use maple syrup. I doubt this plant will survive, that's why it's the guinea pig. I'm just trying to find out if the plant can even use the sugar.
