Red Ants (Fukien Tea)

After failing to rid the red ants from fukien tea by submerging it in water to drown them out I am wondering if they pose any danger? as I can't find anything about what damage they can cause!

The black fly have dissapeared though which is good!

ants themselves usually don't do any damage to your tree but they're usually a sign of something else like aphids or scale. Inspect your tree for any other pests or disease and spray with some insecticidal soap.

I'd be very careful about even a soap spray on fukiens - they don't react well to those sometimes, never mind stronger stuff, though sometimes you don't always have much choice.

I've used the (can't remember the brand name) mitacide/fungicide/etc spray on my fukien tea as a preventative and didn't have any adverse affects. Just use sparingly.

Ew. I hate ants.

The last time I had ants on my FT, I noticed they were attracted to the honeydew the APHIDS made. I used a mild mix of dish soap and H2O and spritzed the tree, taking care to cover the soil so the soap does not drip into it. It did the trick and I only damaged a couple of leaves, but I think these spots were already damaged by the APHIDS. When the APHIDS died, the ants left. APHIDS!!!!! Do you sense my disdain for APHIDS?
