Money Tree Root Rot

Ok, I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it if it was. Anyways, I recently received a braided money tree bonsai from a relative who no longer wanted it. I was looking it over and noticed that all but one of the braided trees was shriveled and felt hollow. I pinched on a bit of bark from one and inside it was just a bit black and mushy and so I'm assuming that this is root rot. I really want this tree to live, so is there anything I can do to bring it back to health? Thank you for any help you can give.
