| Last fall, I planted three of these alongside my house, hoping to thicken their trunks up a bit. These are my first trees. One was unfortunately mowed over, but the two that survived are doing quite well and I'm wondering if I shouldn't consider pruning a little bit. I've heard the best time to do this is when they're growing, is that right? Or should I just leave them grow another year or so and then get down to cutting them up? I can try to get pictures but with my roommate's camera, they won't be so good. Thanks. |

| Better not-so-good pix than none at all. Without them it's really hard to comment, even on how much or where to prune. If you're talking about major branches, the best time is early spring, and summer's really the worst. If you want to trim little twigs with a bit of foliage, now is ok. |
