So much depends on the individual tree - can you post a pic when you get it? The only advice I have is to not keep it in peat (vs grit) and to allow some of the mix to dry between waterings (tho' where you live that might not be an issue!).

You can do virtually anything with a Cotoneaster horizontalis, and they are reasonably indestructible, so are a good starter species.

But, ensure you get one with a trunk or it will always look like a bush; that might be a problem with Cotoneaster, so have a good search through all on offer, and if there are non suitable, go somewhere else.
