New Bonsai

I am buying my next bonsai soon. Trying to decide between Chinese privet and Fukien tea. Any experience or thoughts regarding either species would be appreciated.

Privets are very easy plants for outdoors, Fukiens are somewhat fussy tropicals for indoors, needing supplementary lighting, high humidity, careful watering and careful monitoring for pest control. Privets just grow and grow, shouldn't dry out, but can be chopped and pruned like mad through the season.

Simsedward,,I think a privet would be good..Fukiens are nice trees but like Larke said they can be really fussy.they do have nice flowers but they do not last long at the time..What happened to the elm?? give a up date on it ok?? That is my favorite tree good luck john

The Elm is doing great! I built a shelf for it and attached it to a south facing wall on my garage. It is absolutely thriving and looks awesome. I bought another little one and potted it and it is also doing well, so I decided to try another type of tree. After a few stops at our local bonsai shop, I decided to go with a ficus. The fukiens she had were really small and she had just gotten a shipment of ficus with really thick trunks. This bonsai hobby is addictive....
