| This is my first visit to this forum and, although I've always loved bonsai trees, we are brand new to the idea of purchasing a bonsai so I hope you will bear with me.
We're currently renovating a bathroom that has one north facing window. It gets diffuse sunlight during part of the day but little, if any, direct sunlight. The room will feature a stacked slate wall and will have an earthy organic feel to it so I thought that a bonsai would complement it beautifully. How realistic do you think it is for us to successfully grow a bonsai in this environment? Is there a certain type that we should look for or, even more importantly, any particular kind that we should avoid? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

| I don't think anything will like it there. If I were you, I'd get a fake bonsai tree. They look real, but you don't have to care for them. |

| Seconded, it won't work. Unless you have a large collection that you cycle through in week long intervals |

| Ack server squirrels. How about a nice moss terrarium? That would work well there. |

| I think someone on the Houseplants or Ferns forum asked a similar question about keeping a plant in a low-light bathroom. One solution they came up with was to have two plants that traded places between the bathroom and a higher-light area every few days. |

| I've had luck with growing ficus in low light levels in the home. You can often find pre bonsai ficus at malls, or try your hand at training a bonsai yourself from all the ficus they sell as house plants. |
