Simsedward,,Thanks for the pic.it looks like achinese inport which is ok to me..the bottom branch is on the inside of a curve and smaller.most people remove inside branches. i would wire the other branches more horizontal so you can pad them out with more growth..to me the tree looks good and with time and pruneing will be better.. it looks healthy thats good. did you order it from a bonsai nursery??? keep working good luck john

It is a Chinese import. I bought it from a Bonsai shop here in Southeast Michigan.

Simsedward,, Most of the elms in bonsai nurserys are from china.. you can tell by the shape of the trunks.the chinese wire there trunks for movement while they grow up.sometimes they have really curved trunks like a S shape. people in the u.s. just let them grow and prune back,grow prune back..then the trunk will be how ever it grows...to me there is nothing wrong with chinese trees if you like the shape then go with it. yours looks good to me keep it up and post later good luck john

Good to know. Thanks for the tips. Thinking hard about clipping that branch you recommended.......hate to do it but I can see why you advise it.
