Seeking Book(s) on tree physiology

One of the senior members of our club is always talking about how this hormone is developed in that part of the tree and affects this part of the tree under those conditions . . . and darn, I want to know what he knows! I've asked if he recommneds any particular book, but he says he's just picked it up over the years.

Anybody have a favorite book that a person who never took biology (despite having degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering!) could learn this sort of bonsai-relevant tree physiology from?

Thanks,
Alec

What you should be researching is botany, not so much biology. There are many growth hormones that can and will affect the growth of any plant. I could do a little writing about what each one of these hormones (as I have learned in class), but I take the short cut. What your are looking for are plant growth regulators, or pgr for short. Just type in plant growth regulators, or plant growth hormones into google. Wikipedia looks like it gives a decent(ish...) description of them. If you want some more information, just keep searching the web, there is a lot of research that has been done about pgrs. Good luck!!

Try Googling auxins plus whatever plant you might have in mind.
