Willow leaf ficus

In July 2007 I bought a willow leaf ficus and pruned it's branches for cuttings. 6 cuttings took and where tied to the main trunk of the original tree and shaped in 2008. This year it took off and is growing like I have never seen any ficus grow.
My question is:
Should I let it keep grow to make all the trunks grow into one trunk or start pruning and shaping???
Or what???
It was about 10 inches high x 6 inches wide in the spring and is now 16 x 16 in a 3 month period with many branches forming.

Have you wrapped the trunks so they can fuse, or are you just thinking it will happen automatically?

Yes the trunks are wrapped (tied).
I just looked at them again and there are more uprights growing from the nebari and some long low branches.
I may have to re-wrap them and incorporate some of the new growth into rest of the trunks.
I'll wait about a week and take a closer look.
Will the trunks meld sooner if I keep it growing with out trimming.
