Use the water-based acrylic artists paint that comes in a small tube (like a miniature tube of toothpaste). It's available at almost all hobby stores. Mix dabs of grays, browns, black, & white with enough lime sulfur to paint your deadwood, until you get the color you want. It's helpful to spritz the deadwood with plain water before you paint it on, to help overcome the natural hydrophobic tendency of the dry wood and help with absorption.
