| The 'brat' and I just returned from another week in Da Lat just messing around. Here are a few pics of some ficus we found along the way and some very big Boug's that are planted as ornamentals in a big park there.
The ficus were at a gas station, about 15 in this group, all were planted root-over-rock (note the chains) and the smallest trunk was about the size of my arm. Any of them would have made a beautiful specimin tree in a few years.
The pots are about 2.5' in diameter so you get a pretty good idea of the size of the trunks on these Boug's. They are just grown as ornamentals so I didn't bother showing the whole tree.
It would be nice to cut either of them back severly and develop a nice big crown. I started digging around a little, on the second one, to see what the surface roots were like but a guard shagged me away...what I saw was nice ;)) Bob |

| That's strange for the trees to be at a gas station. It's also strange for them to have a guard. Crazy trip I presume. |

| The ficus were at a gas station, the big bougs were in the 'flower park' in Da Lat. I guess the owner of the gas station is into collecting and growing them on for sale but didn't get to talk to him. Most of the gas stations along highway 1 here are decorated with large ornamentals and Bonsai. I would have nosed around a little more but it was already over 100 degrees, we wanted gas, water and to stretch our legs a little. That was only about 5 hours into a 9 hour ride and we were facing a 6,000'+ climb up the mountain to Da Lat. Bob |
