| Cloudy day, lower temps, ‘brat’ to help and take a few pics of the semi-cascade root-over-rock ficus. The old man I bought the tree from – as a gift to myself, Tet 4 years ago, said he’d grown it for 20 years, I’d believe more like 10. If you follow the line of the biggest roots on the left side of the rock, up and through the apex then out it makes a good line. That’s one reason why I bought the tree…future potental.
It was actually easier than I thought it would be, the cement holding the rocks in place had deterioated over the years, a little hammer and chisel action and they just popped right off. In the past 3 years, with some actual feeding, the root system has about quadroupled. |

| We just set it in the new pot and shimmed the rock so that it’s firmly in place – weighs about 40 pounds anyway so it won’t move much. I spent the next hour pruning it back – the tub of cuttings – then beginning to wire. There will be more wire to re-adjust secondary branches in the future. Bob |

| Very nice Bob. Do you grow that in water with no soil at all? |

| No soil at all, it was started in soil while the roots grew down then moved into the old rectangle pot with just water. The oval looks better but I wish we could get decent pots here, that's nothing but cast cement then painted. Bob |

| This pic shows the heavy root mass down around the bottom of the rock. It's hard to get a good pic because the roots and the rock are both wet and about the same color. In the process of chiseling the rock/cement away from the bottom of the old pot I split the rock in about half however, the roots are growing around it so tightly that it didn't move much. |
