It was time to do something, the roots were filling the tub and it needed to be messed with a little. I wanted to try and find a decent base/buttress which was down there somewhere...it is but will take a while to expose.

As a follow-up: I just put it in this cheap little pot to re-grow some roots and to do some work on the foliage in the next few months. These pics show it in the pot then after some major pruning of the foliage pads, cut back the apex too and removed a few nonessential branches.

So far it hasn't skipped a beat. I'll wait until there is a little new growth before feeding it...probably in two weeks.

This may be a dumb question but I was wondering what the strap or rope is doing? I assume it's pulling a branch but I can't tell from the photo.

'strap or rope' ? No straps or ropes I can see, you may be looking at a chopstick that is lying across the back of the pot in the last photo?

I can't even wire these trees in the pots because most only have one drain hole, tried drilling a few wiring holes out and the pots just shatter, even the cement ones. If this one becomes hard to stabalize I'll use chopsticks and support it by tying them to the tree. So far no problem though.

Yup that was it. I knew it was a dumb question.

Head Cutter,
love the white trunk!

Do you think you could use some of that "marine epoxy" to set eyelets at the inside/edge of the pot? After it hardens, you could wire to these points. Also, because of the incredible humidity where you live, you'd probably want to abraid the container's surface where you'd stick the epoxy. I bet it would hold quite well, at least for a few seasons.

Happy weekend, folks!

I may do that in the future for some of the bigger trees. For now this was the option for this Jasmine.

Looks like it works just fine. Thanks for letting us see that. I'm just starting in bonsai and I like to see things like that. Right now I'm patiently waiting for my Sunset Bonsai book I ordered.
