Bonsi Growing Out of Lava Rock

| I have an 8yr old Bonsi that grows out of lava rock. That rock sits on smaller lava rocks. No soil at all. Some 'moss' though. I've always kept it wet....filled to the top of the bowl it sits in. Just recently it experienced alot of new growth. But now all the new leaves are turning very light green....almost yellow. It sits in a window sill....always has. In our old home it had direct east light for about 1/2 day. We've been in our new home 4mos and now it gets light through large open shutters about6-7 hours a day. Any suggestions?? |

| Depending on the type of tree, I'd say get it into a pot with good draining bonsai soil and get it outside. |

| It probably needs more light and less water. Too much water usually shows up (apart from other things) as yellowing leaves, though not enough fertilizer could also cause that if veins remain green. It's really not a good way to water any plant (from the bottom) and you might want to rethink what you're doing. But I imagine the amount of light it gets in your new place also has something to do with that - plants can tell about subtly different light levels that we can't 'see'. |
