What kind of tree are you working with?

Even without that piece of information, I assume that the tree will be fine.
You've done the right thing by reducing the foliage first. This way, the
reduced root-mass next spring won't have as much foliage making demands - and
so there probably won't be any tip die-back (allowing you to maintain the nice
shape). Then, of course, the healthy foliage will kick into high-gear to help
re-grow those roots.

well,its alot of trees,Ive got about 20 dif little trees Ive been working on and then as far as fat trunk older trees Ive just gotten a peeper,cork oak,big box tree,oh another oak,one called burning bush I think,its a member of the bottle brush I believe buts its trunk is awesome and will be great for some jin and dead wood look,so I was afraid to lop off the top of the pepper thinking the roots would get used to the new top and then screw me next year when I root trim.The box tree is the main one I was posting about though.If I get time I will post pics,please tell me its easy to do here because some places its a real pain.

Posting pics here is THE most problamatic of any forum. It's a 5-6 step process at best (seems like 10 sometimes). Easiest way I've found, but not tried yet, is just create an album somewhere then just post the link to here.

A boxwood can be very very tolerant of almost anything you do, I grew in Pa. You may get a little die-back during a severe winter but that's all. If you're worried and you're in an area that gets pretty cold you can mix up a light dose of Johnson's Glo Coat and give it a spray when it starts getting colder but, I wouldn't do that till you start getting below freezing. Let it have a few frosts and go dormant first. The Eunomonus "burning bush' will do fine. Hope its an Atalis, they have great trunk 'interest'!
