Fuchsia

When I first started with bonsai about 2-3 years ago, I made the mistake of ENSURING the trunks of my bonsai were VERY perpendicular. Now I realize that was a mistake. Can I do anything to fix that at this late date? Some of them have very nice exposed roots and I don't want to lose that feature.

It has been suggested that I cut them all down to 3-4 inches above the root and hope for the best? Yikes!
