half-dried out Juniper tree - rescue?

william76

Hello and thanks for reading this!

I bought a Juniper bonzai for my wife as a wedding gift. Since we've gotten it home, the left half of the foliage has continued to grow and remains bright green and soft. the right half however has completely dried out and begun to break off. The leaves are now tiny little daggers and it smells like old Christmas tree.

I'm about to take all possible actions to save the tree. I will re-pot it with fresh soil, fertilize it and place it in direct sunlight for as many hours a day as possible.

My question is: Should I trim away ALL of the dried out needles (which makes up about half the tree right now) or should I wait until they fall off?

Thanks for you help! the previous postings I have read have been very helpful.
